The story
Starting his journey in 2006 at just 13 years old, Choppa came through during an era when Birmingham’s grime scene was developing its own identity, building his name through freestyles, clashes, collaborations, live performances and independent releases. Rather than arriving through a major-label system, his reputation was built from the ground up — through the music, the scene and years of consistency.
A major chapter came with the release of Matter of Time alongside fellow Birmingham artist Dapz On The Map in 2012. The project included “Straight Up”, which received a Birmingham remix featuring Tempa, Depzman, Jaykae and Sox. Skepta later released his own remix of the track.
Throughout that period, Lil Choppa became a recognised name within the UK grime circuit. His music and freestyles appeared across influential platforms including SBTV, GRM Daily, P110, JDZ Media, Link Up TV and Channel AKA, while his work received support from BBC Radio 1Xtra, including DJs and tastemakers such as DJ Target and Sir Spyro.
Lil Choppa also appeared on Lord of the Mics 5, where he clashed Zeo. He performed on the Boy Better Know and Big Narstie tours.
After a hiatus for personal reasons, Choppa returned to music with a fresh perspective. ChoppCity ENT is now the home for his independent releases.
Nearly twenty years after first picking up the mic, Lil Choppa’s story is still being written.
